What We Do

The LSCF helps to support outstanding programs and services for older adults in our community by providing supplemental funding to the Levy Senior Center. The foundation also extends its impact by offering programs and events designed to enrich the lives of older adults in the Evanston area, ensuring they remain active, connected, and engaged.

Feb 4: Momma Kemba as Sojourner Truth

Celebrate Black History Month with a special performance by storyteller 'Momma Kemba.' She will present a fully costumed, dramatic portrayal of Sojourner Truth, a formerly enslaved woman who became a powerful advocate for abolition, temperance, and civil and women's rights in the nineteenth century. Emotional Fitness with
a Master Fitness Trainer 

Discover how movement and emotion are deeply connected in this Zoom presentation Tuesday, March 4 at 1:30 pm with Shaun Zetlin, author of Emotional Fitness. Shaun will introduce powerful tools for your fitness journey, and will also demonstrate gentle, equipment-free exercises designed to help you harness emotional strength through movement. Feb 17: Documentary Evanston's Living History

Evanston’s Living History, a documentary by Craig Dudnick, chronicles the Crawford family’s escape from racial violence in the South to Evanston, Illinois. It highlights their resilience, the African American community’s fight for justice, and the inspiring rise of Crawford’s descendants as leaders and changemakers. Register.

Levy Lecture: 
Protecting Your Identity

In this hybrid workshop Tuesday, March 11 at 4:00 pm, Byline Bank's Vice President and Financial Literacy Manager, Judette Kurtsz will look at some of the ways fraudsters gain access to your personal information and tips on how to spot these scams. An open discussion will follow. Participants are encouraged to share questions and experiences. Register.

The Visual Science of
Participatory Map-Making

This session of Science for Seniors, presented by Northwestern students, delves into the visual science of participatory map-making, a process that involves community members working with researchers to create maps that represent their local area. Feb 20: Anticancer

Living with Dr. Roy

Don't miss Dr. Debjani Roy’s hybrid presention on anticancer living, Thursday, Feb. 20 at 1:00 pm. Dr. Roy will discuss modifiable risk factors and the 6 pillars of anticancer living, which include diet, physical activity, sleep, stress management, environmental toxins, and supplements. The Levy Senior Center, in partnership with the LSCF, continues to offer free tech support and training. Tuesday Salon: A Thought Provoking Discussion Group

Check out the new weekly discussion group, Tuesday Salon, starting February 11. The group will meet from 11 am to noon in the Library. The discussions will cover a variety of topics, including arts, literature, culture, environment, and history pulled from magazines, TED talks, podcasts, and PBS documentaries. Come check it out! You must be a Levy member to attend.
